New business rules from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, a number of important changes will come into effect that may impact how your Coffs Coast business operates, manages staff, and meets compliance requirements. These updates include changes to minimum wages, superannuation payments, parental leave, business communications and industry-specific regulations.
We've provided a summary of the key changes below, along with links to official information to help you understand what may apply to your business and prepare for the year ahead.
National Minimum Wage Increase
The National Minimum Wage will increase by 4.75% to $26.44 per hour ($1,005 per week). New rates apply from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026.

Payday Super
Superannuation must now be paid at the same time as wages, rather than quarterly. Employers should review payroll systems, super payment processes and cash flow arrangements.

Small Business Super Clearing House Closure
The Small Business Super Clearing House will close permanently on 1 July 2026. Businesses should transition to an alternative super payment solution and download any required reports before closure.

Paid Parental Leave Increase
Government-funded Paid Parental Leave will increase to 26 weeks from 1 July 2026. Employers should review leave policies and workforce planning arrangements.

Seafood Country of Origin Labelling
Hospitality businesses serving seafood must clearly identify whether seafood is Australian (A), Imported (I) or Mixed Origin (M) on menus and customer information before ordering. Applies to restaurants, cafes, pubs, takeaway, and delivery platforms.

SMS Sender ID Register
Businesses using branded SMS sender names must register their Sender ID through their telecommunications provider to help improve trust and protect customers from scams. Unregistered messages may be marked “Unverified”.

AML/CTF Reforms
Updated anti-money laundering laws may affect additional businesses from 1 July 2026. Depending on your industry, you may need to enrol with AUSTRAC and meet new compliance requirements.
