Championing Equal Pay Day: “It Doesn’t Add Up”

The Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) reveals that despite equal pay being a legal requirement since 1969, gender discrimination, family responsibilities, and job type segregation continue to contribute to a gender pay gap of 12%. This year, women must work 50 days past the end of the financial year to earn what men do, making Equal Pay Day fall on 19 August 2024.

 

Join BPW Coffs Coast and The Big Banana as we spotlight the Gender Pay Gap with this exciting event:

• BB Light Up: The Big Banana will glow RED to signify the urgent need for action.
• Interactive Session: Understand how the pay gap "doesn’t add up" for women.
• Fun Zone: Enjoy fun activities because "Girls just want to have fun and fair pay."

The Symbol for Equal Pay Day is Red. On Equal Pay Day Women and supporting men wear Red. Red stands for the fact that women are “in the red” due to their underpayment. The Red Bag stands for red numbers in women's pockets.
